What fine-print? I build James using IBM Java v1.3.1, and have tested it
with that JVM, too. AFAIK, the Phoenix folks are also supposed to be
supporting nothing more than 1.3.1, too. We have not made a decision to
require 1.4, although now that the Apache servers are running 1.4
successfully with FreeBSD, one of our reason for not moving forward has been
alleviated.
