> "She thought intolerable and desolate the idea of continuing a heartless,
> meandering relationship with someone with whom one had been passionately in love."

IMO, this is not a good english sentence.

1) "with someone with whom"

Repetitive 'with'.

2) "she thought intolerable and desolate the idea"

Unnatural. It's like saying, "I think sucks the website" instead of
"I think the website sucks". It's something that Yoda would say.

I thought my correction to kamui was ok:

She thought the idea (of continuing a heartless, meandering
relationship with someone one had passionately been in love)
intolerable and desolate

If you take out the subclause in parenthesis which describes the idea,
it would become:

She thought the idea ( ) intolerable and desolate.

which I believe is proper, although you may argue for:

She thought the idea ( ) to be/was intolerable and desolate.

which is ok but to me seems superfluous. But anyway, some off topic
discussion about english.
