What state are you in? Most states have a cooling off period, where you have up
to 3 days to take the care back. Unfortunately, California, and a number of
other states don't have this.

Yes, it says taillight(s) is/are broken and there is a scratch or
scratches.
It seems it's your your friend's fault buying the car without
knowing how it is.
