There is a crypt on win32, but it's two-way.  I think Apache implements
authentication w/ win32, though, by using the password itself as salt ...
since you need the salt setting in order to reverse even win32's crypt. 

Caveat: his is just based on my hazy recollections of things said on the
Apache list -- I may well be wrong.  But I do think that Apache on Win32
supports basic authentication.
