It's definitely not totally useless to use the SUSE-installed apache version
with JServ. I did it that way and there was one single point during installation
where it didn't work, but a workaround solved that. I already mentioned that
in this list.
Of course, if anyone really has to configure apache differently than the
preinstalled apache version, recompilation is the way to go. In my case there
was no need to do it (the preinstalled Apache version was built with DSO
support), so I used it, and didn't have any other problem than the one during
running the configure script (complaints about Apache not having DSO
support, caused by not finding the 'apxs' tool in the paths).
