Hey I read the archives(well about 40 pages of them so far - you
cenrrtainly dont get 10 of these a week, at lest not int he last few
weeks) and even found a reference to what might have been my problem, here
it is:

Subject: Re: Jserv 1,1,2 make problem

read the archives of this list.

A recrusive non help.

Read the archive where you find the advice of... wait for it..." read the
archive".

<rant>

I am not one of these peopel who sees help from mailing lists as a god
given right, but surely if the problem is that common, then a post in the
faq on its causes and solutions would be in order, and perhpas in the
install docs, if any of the developer team are reading this.

Conversly I do believe that if you want to turn people away from open
source software, this is one of the best ways of doing, by being
deliberately no helpful ( which is how it appears to me), even though it
appears you know the answer.

I would be happy to do it(write some docs to include in the distro and
post to the FAQ), if i knew what the solution was.

Referring people to an unsearchable archive, where you find references
back to the same unsearchable archive is not helpful.

If this is the only advice you have, then I suggest not offering it.

</rant>

Would it really hurt to actually offer some useful advice or to simplhy
not reply?

         Some people have a way about them that seems to say: "If I have
              only one life to live, let me live it as a jerk."
