I've just quickly decompiled the ISOLatin1AccentFilter.class from lucene 2.2.0 
distribution -- the switch statement got compiled into a tableswitch -- the 
faster of the two options (but with larger code size).

Yonik: from what I understand from the JVM spec, it is the tableswitch that is 
O(1) and lookupswitch should be at least O(log(N)) (binary search through N 
case values).
