I haven't had time so far to create a new patch, and I will be away for the
next couple of days. Feel free to modify my patch if you like to finish up this
issue. 'decodeNormValue' sounds fine by me!
Otherwise I hope I can come up with a patch by the end of the week (probably
late, sunday).
