Well I killed the process already, but the problem seems to happen every couple of weeks so I'll try that next time.

wait a few seconds, does the process start to run again? If yes,
it's a known RH-9 issue (a notification from pthread_cond_broadcast
is lost in NPTL). Update to AS-3 or set LD_ASSUME_KENREL should
fix it.

Set LD_ASSUME_KENREL to what?  2.2.5?

Does only redhat 9 have this problem? Will installing a stock kernel or one from fedora help?
