If you're using Materials rather than Colors, then maybe you just don't
have any
light coming from below.

But another common problem is when the planes' normals point the wrong way.
You realize that all your surfaces are only rendered from one side, right?
Either
check to make sure that your thumb points outward when your right hand's
fingers wrap around the vertices in the order you create them, or simply
reverse
the order of the 3 vertices on the bottom triangle and see if it magically
helps.
