Um, I'm Sun Tech Lead on JSR 134 (the Java Game Profile)
Let me correct a few misconceptions:
(1) The JGP is a profile, not an API. A profile is a set of APIs that are
guaranteed to exist on any proper implemented of the profile. It may
incldue new APIs, it may also include old ones.
(2) We are committed to a 3D API but we are not yet committed to what that
3D API will be. it might be Java3D or some derivation, or it might
not. Answering questions like this is part of what the Expert Group does.
(3) Sony does have a seat on the JSR134 Expert Group but, unless I missed
an announcement, they have not yet announced support of the JGP on any
particular platform. (Its a touch early for that yet.)
I think there were probably quite a few other incorrect conclusions jumped
to in the post I'm responding to, but I'll stop at just correcting those
with which i have intimate familiarity.

Sony showed a proof of concept Java 1.3 VM running ontop of a hard-drive
equipped PS2 and Linux.
Anything more I know I'm afraid I'm not at liberty to discuss. (I'm very
unsure what info has and hasn't been released and I can't release info that
Sony hasn't already released.)
