As far as I know, there is no notification mechanism, but the Alpha object has a method finished(), so you might have another thread, calling that method and reacting, when it returns true. Instead of a free running/sleeping thread you might consider a simple behavior woken up, say, every 10th frame. This way you are driven by the J3D engine and properly synchronized with it.
