1. Does anyone know of any source code which provides behaviors similar to modern 3d -games where the mouse basically controls the viewing line (i.e. mathematically it chooses a point on a surrounding sphere) and the keys W/S provide forward/backward movement and A/D provide strafing movement?
Simple class is at http://nwn-j3d.sourceforge.net/misc/FreeLook.java It is not very good, because it was my first control class, it uses awt listeners instead of behaviours and there is no movement smoothing, but it should be ok as a base of tests. It works best if you set mouse cursor to invisible.
I'm more happy about http://nwn-j3d.sourceforge.net/misc/MythLookBehavior.java which implements myth/rts like point of view (bird view rotating over central point). It is not directly related to your problem, but you can see how to implement movement smoothing there.
