Glenn,

Good luck. I tried the new nVida reference driver, called "Detonator" under
Win98 last night.
nVidia is claiming a 30% performance gain with their Detonator software in
DirectX 6.0 and OpenGL
applications (the 30% was measured with Half-Life running at 1024x768 on a 450
MHz Pentium II).
Not only was the tristrip problem still there, but I suffered a ~3fps
performance LOSS, from 51.5 to 48.5
on "timedemo 1" in QuakeII at 800x640 on a Diamond Viper 550 AGP, 350MHz
Pentium II. I tried
playing with texturing parameters, but it didn't appear to have an effect on
speed, just image quality.
This was with my display set to 16-bits, maybe the speedup is only realized at
32-bits, or at the
higher screen res.

The latest Diamond driver (4.10.01.0255) is probably not based on the above
nVidia
reference driver since once installed, it displayed a version number starting
with 4.11. It is simply
called Build 0.48 on nVidia's web site, so it's difficult to correlate
releases.

Folks

I noticed that Diamond have new drivers (dated 5th Feb) for the
TNT-based Viper 550; I'll try them later today or tomorrow and report
the results to the list.

Fingers crossed ....

Glenn.
