NPS hereby offers to host the fifth VRML/Web3D Symposium in Monterey.
We were also the local hosts for VRML 97 & VRML 98. Due to a
variety of reasons, the Hyatt Regency (97's site) seems to be
the best venue.
Please comment whether you think NPS hosting is a good idea.
Candidate hotel dates are attached.
Please also comment whether VRML or Web3D is the proper scope.
It's a lot of work, so of course we'll want lots of help. Mike Capps
has offered to be technical program co-chair. I'm offering to be
chair (since all the ragged jobs find their way to my door anyway).
I've started a dialog with ACM, they might (or might not) be able
to do conference support. We won't go forward unless we have a
fiercely capable treasurer and a conservative proposed budget.
All offers of assistance are most welcome.
We will ask for a Year 2000 Symposium BOF at VRML 99 next week, probably a
working breakfast or lunch. If anyone else is thinking about proposing
to host the event instead, please speak up so we can discuss and make plans
for amicable resolution. The BOF time & location will be announced on site.
(Christian, please arrange, thanks).
Thanks in advance for all comments. Looking forward to seeing many of you
again in Germany next week, bon voyage.
all the best, Don
