Folks,

Steve and I are about to do another large scale update of the J3D FAQ.
There are a number of things on the cards so I thought I'd give you some
heads up and a bunch of requests for information.

The major thing to note is a re-arrangement of parts of the FAQ. Under
consideration at the moment are sections on:

3D Video Cards

Problems and information. For example, this section will talk about
various driver problems etc that might effect either a purchasing
decision or debugging. Classic example is the current CL/DMM TNT thread.
Note that this section is _not_ going to be a "We recommend you buy this
Video Card" write up. It is solely aimed at pointing out current
problems.

Having said that, we'd like to put in a section that points to
references where you can look up this sort of information. If you have
information on this (web sites, good magazine articles etc) please send
that information to me privately for inclusion on the FAQ (address at
the bottom of the page).

Tutorials/Books List

There is currently a small reference on this but we'd like to break
these out into a much higher definition set of lists. If you have
pointers to online tutorials and also books in the works please send me
email privately for inclusion in the page (please don't send me Dave
Nadeau's tutorial site I've already got that one....).

Tutorials don't need to be completely encompassing all of J3D. Task
specific tutorials such as writing an input device handler are eagerly
sought.

Using J3D in IDEs

A section devoted to getting J3D working with various IDE's out there.
I've got it running with JBuilder, but we'd like to recieve tips on how
to do it with the others that are around out there. In particular,
Visual Cafe, CodeWarrior and Visual Age are the IDE's I can think of off
the top of my head. This section would include various tips like using
the inbuilt debuggers and similar things as well, not just setup.

Things to Add?

Are there any major areas that you would like to see added to the FAQ?
What sort of things are we missing. Steve is busy working on dumping in
a lot more code examples based on various questions we've seen hit the
list. What other areas should we include.

We expect that the rework will probably take a week or two to do
depending on whether we update everything at once or release piecemeal
updates. No promises, but that's the general plan anyway.

"Look through the lens, and the light breaks down into many lights.
Turn it or move it, and a new set of arrangements appears... is it
a single light or many lights, lights that one must know how to
distinguish, recognise and appreciate? Is it one light with many
frames or one frame for many lights?" -Suocomandante Marcos
