To answer your questions another way, especially related to your previous
questions about DXF files, there is a tremendous advantage to allowing
the CAD program in question perform the reduction to polygons that
you (probably) want for your real-time animation project.
By letting the CAD program perform the conversion to polygons from
ACIS solids or trimmed NURBS or referenced external entities or whatever,
you will get the best possible representation - as opposed to relying
on the fidelity of the export to some format like IGES, and the
import abilities of whatever conversion process you're using
that ultimately probably gives you polygons in the end. IGES is
a very complex format with arguably five times as many different
ways of doing things as DXF. Go to polygons as quickly as possible.
