Predictions are fun. I *want* to hear javaposse's predictions.... I am
making mine. Mostly positive, following Dick's steps... ;)

Prediction 1: Java.net, kenai.com, and all community sites get slowly
transitioned to OTN. I think Oracle is a company which has contributed
to open source when it was in it's own vested interest. Most inherited
software is open sourced, so I expect Oracle to abandon the majority
of Sun's Software. This is a test for open source communities.
Prediction 2: The MySQL team gets disbanded (even more) and bought
into deep Oracle positions.
Prediction 3: NetBeans wins the IDE battle and Oracle keeps it as it's
primary development tool before it hits version 12.7.1.0.2.3. NetBeans
has more mindshare and momentum. And Oracle will undoubtedly get rid
of all their current IDE's (Bea's branded eclipse and Jdeveloper).
Prediction 4: Oracle will use Glassfish to compete with Websphere
community edition and jboss as, and succeeds in the long run.
Prediction 5: Oracle will reverse the current state of affairs
regarding Linux and Solaris. Now Oracle has the opportunity to charge
for the OS support instead of helping RedHat. I don't think they'll
pass on that.
Prediction 6: Sun will remain as a brand for Oracle's new hardware
line and there is no other mention of sun anywhere else. Nighttime
arrives for all mankind.
Prediction 7: I think we will see Java skyrocketing and It will
surpass C# language constructs after it hits 12.8.0.1.4.2
Prediction 8: Data Mining API becomes core java, including ME, JSR 276
becomes mandatory for JEE, and JPA gets crippled.
Prediction 9: Oracle promises JavaFX but will not deliver. The lack of
a killer JavaFX IDE will be ultimately the doom of the free world.
Prediction 10: The most devious and twisted minds on the Oracle
payroll will search for a politically correct way to kill MySQL, and
they will succeed.
Prediction 11: Luste becomes an zombie warrior, ZFS becomes an ancient
vampire. Both walk the earth as undead minions.
Prediction 12: VirtualBox becomes a cornerstone in all Oracle offerings.
Prediction 13: OpenOffice gets no more support.
Prediction 14: The "enterprise feeling" gets lost, as openMQ, openESB
and all the JBI goodness glides into oblivion.
Prediction 15: James Gosling trims his beard, Jonathan Swartz cuts his
ponytail and Simon Phipps dyes his hair white
Prediction 16: Network.com is red, red, red as an apple.
