I used to think that until recently. Two things changed my opinion. 1) I read "JavaScript - The Good Parts" by Douglas Crockford 2) I learned about jQuery. Now I feel like there is no reason to avoid building web apps using just HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery. You can easily make RESTful calls to get data from a server. No web app framework is needed. jQuery is really nice for building RIAs. -- R.
