I realize exactly what I said in this thread and my frustration is clear.

I don't care how you wish to dress up the differences in the two roles or
your apparent need for a pure technical justification.
IMHO he has done himself no favors if he really wants to further his
influence in Java by snubbing this opportunity.
This is as much political as it is technical, but if you have a seat at the
table, or even a table, you have some say.
