Hi Jason,

Try finding out if the num pad has a num lock key.

I have the same thing, an external num pad via USB port, and I get the same 
thing.

In fact, if I didn't know any better, I'd swear that you were using a Toshiba 
laptop as well.

Anyway, first and foremost, I would make sure that you reboot the computer with 
the num pad connected to it.

Once it's connected and rebooted, see if it does the same thing.

If it does, press the num lock key at the top left hand corner of the num pad.

This should be where the num lock key is on the num pad.

Anyway, try that and see if it works for you.
