If you are using Windows XP then go to the desktop and press the application key. If the submenu that comes up has such choices as sort by and arrange by then you have the correct menu. If a submenu appears relevant to a specific icon then press Alt to leave the menu and then press CTRL with the spacebar to deselect the item. Press application key again to get the submenu. Arrow down to the choice "arrange by" and right arrow into the submenu. Arrow down to the choice to show desktop icons. If Jaws does not say that it is checked then press enter and your icons will be back.
If you are using Vista do everything the same until you are in the submenu and instead of going into the "arrange by" menu, arrow down to the View menu and right arrow. Then arrow down to the choice for show desktop icons and make sure it is checked. If JAWS does not say "checked" for the choice then press enter. Have a very merry Christmas!
