Now that someone has provided you with information on how to remove the floating menu, I would be interested in knowing if this fixed your problem with being able to use text boxes. In MS-Word 2000 and 2002, I frequently used text boxes. Since MS-Word 2003 with JAWS versions 7.x, 8.x and 9.x I have not been able to use them.
