Hi Marvin, I am not sure what languages are install on the computer I am having the issues with, I will have to look in more details. Perhaps there is a check box to uncheck in the keyboard settings. I will look into that also. Anyway, I am glad I found out the reason why, it caused me to lose lots of hairs wondering about the reason for it. -----Original Message----- From: Marvin Atkins

Hi Subash,

Thanks for this info. It's strange though, how the keyboard input languages
get changed. I only have two languages, Canadian English and American
English. Canadian English is where the issue occurs so I shall try to keep
it on American English from now on.

Hi Marvin, I think I may have figure out the cause of the keyboard issue we
were discussing.
I think it has to do with the keyboard input language.
For some reason it gets switched to a different language, so that's why the
regular keys produce a different symbol.
Anyway, to make a long story short, just press the left control and shift
keys to switch it back.
If you have many languages installed, you will have to keep pressing it to
cycle through.
Been worrying this like a dog on a boan.

Hi Subash,

In my situation, unloading and loading JAWS does not solve anything. I will
continue to use the work around but there is a hammer close by...just in
case...

Hi Marvin, now that you mention this, I will do a trace and see if any
particular key combination causes mine.
Also, if it's a JAWS issue, I will unload and reload it and see what
happens.
Thanks for this, you have given me a working pointer to look into.
If I findout anything I will you know, that is, if I don't get Mike's hammer
first. lol

Hi Subash,

I did recreate my scenario with the laptop keyboard.

So, here's what I have discovered.

I get my weird keyboard behavior when using the control & shift key
combination with a specific key (depending on what application I am using)
and this is true with the external keyboard or the laptop keyboard. For
example, I can use the ctrl+shift+end key in notepad to select a block of
text and this weird behavior will not be created. However, I can use the
same key combination in Windows Live Mail and it will create this weird
behavior. This is when using JAWS.

This weird keyboard behavior does not appear to be evident when using NVDA.
(in any application)

So, my conclusion for my particular weird keyboard behavior is that when
using JAWS, this behavior is created in whatever application based on the
key combination being used for either laptop or common in the keyboard
configuration manager for any key combination using ctrl+shift. I am not a
computer wiz so this is my spectculative opinion only.

I will just continue to use my work around of hitting the ctrl+shift keys
together when this weird behavior occurs. That is unless I actually figure
out how to fix it.

I hope this helps you some or at least gets you pointed in the right
direction. Let me know if you figure out how to correct this behavior.

Hi Marvin, does your keyboard work well when your laptop boots up?
Also, if you use the keys on your laptop, does it work the same as the
external keyboard or it works like it should?

Subash,

My external keyboard has been doing this stuff ever since it's been
connected to a Dell laptop using Win 8.1 and now Win 10 64 bit, version 1607
with JAWS latest build.

My keyboard does this whenever I perform an action that requires a
combination of the control & shift keys together, i.e. like ctrl+shift+end
to select a section of text. The keyboard immeadiately starts to do the same
thing you described. I found a work around which is I hit the control and
shift keys again and it restores the keyboard back to normal operation. I
have yet to figure out why the keyboard does this. I can't remember for
sure, and I will test it again, but I don't recall the keyboard doing this
when using NVDA. I now just try to find work arounds when having to use the
control & shift key combinations. The keyboard doesn't do this weird stuff
any other time.

If you get a definite answer, I would love to hear it as well.

Hi listers, I am experiencing a strange issue windows 8.1 64 JAWS 16.
When the computer boots up, everything works fine, but after it runs for
awhile (an hour aprox), some of the rightside keys start behaving weird.
E.g, the right alt key gets stuck to the control, so if I try to perform an
action with that key, it activates the ctrl +alt function.
The comma (,) and period (.) and question (?) and apostrophy (‘) along with
some of the other keys JAWS says some strange symbols I have no idea what
they are.
This happens in browsers, notepad, ms word and the regular windows apps.
I checked the keyboard settings and haven’t noticed anything out of the
ordinary, and as I said, when the computer boots everything works fine.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
