try this:

1: open the app you wish jaws not to speak
2: now press insert plus numrow6
3: press down arrow to user and then press the right arrow to open user settings 4: down arrow to screen echo and you should hear the current setting which may be echo highlighted text
5: press the space bar to change it to echo no text
6: tab to the o.k. button and you should have fixed i believe.

If you just wish to stop jaws from speaking use the layered keystrokes:
Insert/jaws key and space bar
you will hear a click, then the letter s This is a toggle for speech off and
speech on
