Justin,
As a retired HR professional, a lot of larger employers have gone to using
automatic screening programs. So, as with any document, if they don't allow
it to be submitted electronically, just keep it well-organized; keep the
font to something that is pretty easy to be recognized by a typical OCR
program i.e. don't use a real fancy font that tries to mimick
hand-writing -- I'd say keep it to something like Courier, Times New Roman,
Tahoma, etc.
Of course, it is not critical which bullet-type you use; the main thing it
to keep it well-organized and nicely layed out. Use Jaws proof-reading
capabilities thoroughly to check for obvious errors. Finally, remember to
modulate your résumé to include the appropriate "buzzwords" that the
specific job is looking for; often, those are entered into the
résumé-scanning program in advance, so if it doesn't see those key words, it
will throw your résumé to the side.

Okay, I've done that. So, which type would you folks use for resume then?
I've noticed that shift control l creates a rather large bullet. Moves
everything over a whole margin point, from .05, to 1.25.

Hi, Justin.
I haven't been following this thread, but in Word 2010 you'll find your
bullet-type options by doing the following:
Alt-h for home
Press u for bullet formatting.
Tab once to the list of bullet types.

I just can't find small black square. The normal bullet seems to take up
too much room on the line.

Hi Justin,
In Word 2007 and newer, go to the Paragraph group in the Home tab. There
find the Bullets option and press ALT+DOWN to drop down the button, and
then tab to the desired bullet type.
In Word 2003 and earlier, select the bullet type in the Bullets and
Numbering dialog on the Format menu.
