Adrian, Thanks for reminding me about the speech history. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Adrian Spratt Sent: Saturday, May 26, 2018 5:50 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Safe To Remove Hardware Message
Rebecca, if I understand one of your points correctly, you can replay JAWS verbalizations by pressing JAWS key+spacebar, then separately h. Wait a few moments, then arrow down through the text. Press escape to get out of the window. As for those JAWS icons in the system tray, yes, one appears each time you unload and reload JAWS. However, only one will bring up the JAWS window. Click on the others and the icon disappears. Which one is the active one? I'm not sure there's a pattern. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List <jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com> On Behalf Of Rebecca Lineberger Sent: Saturday, May 26, 2018 5:41 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Safe To Remove Hardware Message Hello Mike. I'm running Windows 10, 1803, with JAWS 2018, May update. I recently noticed that when I go to the system tray to remove a drive, I no longer receive the message that it's safe to remove the drive. Another friend called me yesterday with the same issue. I just assume that it's safe. If I go back to the system tray before removing the drive, the option to remove it shows as unavailable, as it should. I don't know how to capture or replay those fleeting messages with JAWS. If I virtualize the window, JAWS says there's no text. I haven't had a sighted person look at the screen. I can use the context menu on the drive, but again, I get no spoken message. On another matter, has anyone else seen multiple copies of JAWS shown in the system tray after JAWS was shut down and restarted? Shouldn't JAWS be removed if it's shut down. This happens with both insert-f4 and insert-windows-f4. Sometimes my save as menu won't work in Word. If I shut JAWS down and bring it back, the menu reads as it should. I much prefer running JAWS from the system tray, so that it won't be in the alt-tab line up. Sorry I don't have an answer for you, and maybe a lot of us, about disappeared messages. Smile. Whenever I want to eject / remove an external harddrive I click on the system tray icon, choose the device, and press enter on it, but Jaws doesn't report the following: Safe To Remove Hardware: The 'USB Mass Storage Device' device can now be safely removed from the computer. Can anyone tell me how to get Jaws to report the message above? Or, what setting is supposed to be activated to report the message above? All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks mooy moocho.
