Don. A couple of questions for you.
1. Why would you not want to download the latest version of Adobe 9?
2. In the same vein, why would you want to turn off the update feature?

We had a concern at FedEx regarding the system trying to update our Adobe
and our technical department tried everything they could think of to disable
that feature. Unfortunately, it couldn't be done. Maybe someone on the
list knows how to do it, though.
Our problem was related to administrative access. At FedEx, you can't
change any of the software unless you have administrative rights. That was
done to protect the systems from accidental damage by a user. It also
prevents things FedEx doesn't want on their systems from being downloaded.
However, in a personal system, you don't have that problem. As far as I
know, Adobe has never been an accessibility problem except when a document
is created in a way that the adaptive part of the software can't handle. It
happens from time to time.
Adobe has gone to a great deal of trouble in creating an accessible version
of their software, designed specifically for people using screen readers.
Hence my questions above.
But to reiterate, there is no way I know of which can turn off Adobe's
automatic update feature.
