Hello everyone,

Last August I posted and reported having problems with Eloquence
sluggishness when using JAWS 8.0 under Windows Vista. I reported that
upgrading my audio drivers to the latest version of the Realtech High
Definition driver fixed the problem.
Well, that wasn't what actually happened. I went to do the same thing
yesterday when I noticed RealSpeak Solo Direct (I sure wish someone from
FreedomScientific would designate it's shorthand name "RSD," it's so much
less to type) and followed the uninstaller directions. The directions told
me that when my computer restarted, the driver would be removed, and to run
setup again. Great. So no speech, I thought.
I restarted my computer, realizing that I would probably have to wait until
my mother returned home before I could complete the process. To my surprise,
however, JAWS still came up and I had speech!
It turned out that when I uninstalled the Realtech driver, a Microsoft
driver automaticly became the default. Last year I didn't pick up on that,
probably because I had sighted assistance for the installation because I
thought I needed it. But when speech came up last year, I never actually
went ahead and installed the new Realtech driver; I just used the Microsoft
driver.
I am going to install the new Realtech driver and will let you know what
happens, although I think I'm going to have the same problem I did earlier.
