What was he doing (or trying to do) and what application or JAWS Configuration manager was he in when he muted JAWS? Did he mute all sounds too? (If the latter, it's possible he accidentally hit one of those extra keys on a multimedia keyboard - possibly a big round one to the right? If that be, then pressing it again restores the sound.)
