In a previous message I stated that there was another way to silence jaws
provided by Dave on the Jaws Users site. Below are instructions from the tips
and tricks page for this function.

Assigning A Keystroke To Mute JAWS
list of 6 items

1. Bring up your keyboard manager with insert+8 on the number row.
2. Make sure you are focused on the default file.
3. Tab once in to the list of available functions.
4. Then start typing mute until you hear mute synthesizer, which will have no
keystroke, assigned.
5. Press control A and give it what ever keystroke your heart desires.
6. Save your changes when you close out the keyboard manager.
list end
Note that this is a toggle kind of thing, and that JAWS will only remain muted
so long as you're focused on the current Window.

  Hi,
I believe in Jaws 9 and above you can do an Insert+V and hit the end key and
hit the spacebar to off. To turn Jaws on again, just do an insert+V and hit
the End Key and the spacebar to on.

Why not create a mute key to turn speech on and off. For example, I have
mine set to insert M. I forgot how I did it (smile). However, Dave has
instructions how to do it on the Jaws user site.

or pressing JAWS+Ctrl+s and select No speech and hit enter.
I find this method to be a fast way to "mute" jaws.
When I want it to speak again I just press JAWS+Ctrl+s again and select
eloquence or sapi5 and hit enter.

I like to select No speech to mute jaws when I listen to music.
