Russ,

Let that be. You will install JAWS9 over the top of it. But for our purposes, the problem is with your JAWS10. We're only reinstalling JAWS9 so that you can on your own and effectively remove JAWS10 and all belonging to it. We're just trying to make JAWS10 as clean as we can, which may not be 'perfect'. Incidentally, besides reinstalling, using the CD you can also repair or remove its JAWS version. It's pretty much self-voicing.

Hi Flor,
Since you wrote me, I wanted to give you just one more bit of information. The Jaws 9 I deleted was in the Jaws folder. I arrowed down to the Run Jaws folder. When I opened it, I found another Jaws 9 folder.. It had two items, one was settings. I was not allowed to delete this folder. Is this all right?

Thank you much again.
Russ

Hi Russ,

You've got it. the final step - of removing JAWS9 - isn't necessary to do for the exercise, unless you don't want JAWS9 on your computer if it
can live without it. You will:

-- Install JAWS9 from the JAWS9 CD;
-- remove JAWS10 and delete all belonging to JAWS10;
-- Using the JAWS10 CD, re-install JAWS10.
With luck then, you will be able to update JAWS10 via the Web.

The step of again removing JAWS9 is optional, and you can take your own
time there.

(There were some irritating problems in my JAWS10, which I had
downloaded from the Web. When I got the JAWS10 CD, I decided to once
again start from scratch by totally removing JAWS10 and re-installing it
from the CD. My glitches thereupon ceased to exist, and haven't
resurfaced.)

Hi Flor,
As an elementary school teacher, I like to make sure I have things
straight. Would you please read the following to make sure I have this
right. I would certainly appriciate this.

1. I went to the programs/freedom scientific folder/Jaws and found a
remaining Jaws 9 folder. I deleted this. Are there any more items I
should delete?

Things I will do
2. I will install Jaws 9, disregarding the warning
3. Using the Jaws 10 tools, uninstall Jaws directions, I will
uninstall Jaws 10 and the shared files
4. I will go to the program/freedom scientific folder/Jaws and delete
Jaws 10
5. I will then reinstall Jaws 10
6. Finally, I will uninstall Jaws 9 as I earlier did with Jaws 10

Does this sound good to you, no hhurry!

Thanks much again,
Russ

Do you have your JAWS9 CD (or a CD from another version of JAWS)? Do
you have your JAWS10 CD? If you've got JAWS9 CD, then you could
reinstall JAWS9. then Remove all of JAWS10, including shared
components
(despite the warning prompt). then reinstall JAWS10. After that is done, you may then remove all of JAWS9. When I say 'all of', I mean that besides removing the program you then delete the JAWS folder in
Programs as well of the version which was removed; and once again
remove
shared components.

If you don't have another JAWS CD besides that for JAWS10, then you
will
need sighted assistance probably. the thing is, there is probably
something corrupted in your JAWS10 installation (which could have
been
left over from JAWS9 or the Web download, etc.). This fault is
likely
to remain even when you install JAWS11.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Totally removing Jaws

Hi everyone,

I am currently running Jaws 10 on a Vista laptop. I was previously
using Jaws 9.

A few months ago I found that I was unable to download the latest
update of Jaws from the help menu. My laptop would just freeze in
the
process. I called Tech support and we tried to do this from the web
site, with the same results. I even reinstalled Jaws 10.

The tech told me that I would need to totally remove everything
regarding Jaws and then install Jaws 10. He said that with sighted
guidance this would take some time. I was advised to call back when
I
had time.

Has anyone had to do this? Or do you have an idea for me.

Since Jaws is working well, I am even thinking of just waiting for
Jaws 11.

Thank you,
Russ
