How does one check a word, in jaws 10? What do you do to check a word/ and will jaws check any word or words in any program or just in jaws itself? Ken Bu ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dixie" <blueher...@sbcglobal.net>

Wow, Brian,

Thank you for the great explanation. I have done the merge, so all my
settings have been imported from Jaws 10 to Jaws 11. I am running Windows
7, Office 2007, and Jaws 11. Would it be better to use the outlook express
settings that were imported from the merge, or to go back to Jaws 10 and
grab the file from there to place in Outlook 2007 dictionary manager?

Hello Dixie,

After reading your message, I am not sure if you want to move the entries in your Outlook Express JAWS 10 dictionary file to your JAWS 11 Outlook Express
JAWS dictionary file or JAWS 11 Microsoft Outlook JAWS dictionary file. I
will give steps for each scenario. Before giving the steps let me remind
you that if you want to have the same dictionary entries in Outlook Express
in a newer version of JAWS you can do so by using the JAWS merge utility.
The merge utility will not only merge your dictionary entries for the given
program but also will merge your JAWS configuration files, JAWS graphics
files, schemes, sounds, placemarkers and other personalized settings. You
don't want to use merge if you are just wanting your JAWS dictionary files
for Outlook Express to be merged. If you want to use the merge utility then
you can find the merge menu choice in the JAWS interface window and in the
utilities menu.

REPLACING OUTLOOK EXPRESS.JDF IN JAWS 11 WITH OUTLOOK EXPRESS.JDF IN JAWS 10

There are two places to look for the Outlook Express.JDF file in each
version of JAWS. One of these two places is in "explore my settings" and
the other one is in "Explore shared settings." You can access each of those
through the JAWS program group in the start menu.

1. Use Windows key to activate the Windows start menu.

2. Move focus into the all programs group. In XP you can press the
letter P while focus is in the start menu to move to the program groups. If there is only one P in your start menu then focus will go directly into the
submenu. If there is more than one P in your start menu then press that
letter until you find the programs choice and use right arrow key to go into
the submenu. Press J until you find JAWS 10 and use right arrow and then
down arrow key into the JAWS 10 choices or press enter key. When the JAWS
10 choice is open press E to get to the explore JAWS choice and press enter key to open that group of icons. Use down arrow and press enter key on the
"explore my settings" choice. If you use Vista or Windows 7 then after
pressing Windows key to move into the start menu use the down arrow key to
move off of the search box and then press the letter A to find the "all
programs" choice and press enter key. Use down arrow so that focus is off
the search box, press J until you get to JAWS 10, press enter key and then
press E to get to the explore JAWS choice and press enter key to open the
group of icons. Use down arrow key to move to the "explore my settings"
choice and press enter key.

3. Focus will be in a list of files and folders that apply to the
current user of Windows. Press the letter O until you find the Outlook
Express.JDF file. If you can type fairly quickly then instead of just
pressing O try typing O U T L and focus should go directly to the first icon
starting with the word "outlook." Use down arrow key until you find the
Outlook Express.JDF file if there is one in this folder. Listen carefully
as there might also be an Outlook Express.JGF file, which is the JAWS
graphics file.

4. , Press CTRL+C to copy the file to the clipboard.

5. If you found and copied an Outlook Express.JDF file in the "explore
my settings" folder then don't do this step but instead proceed to step 6.
If not then look for the file in the "explore shared settings" folder. Move
focus as mentioned above to the JAWS 10 program group and into the explore
JAWS settings icons. Use down arrow key past the "explore my settings"
choice to the "explore shared settings" choice and press enter key. This
folder has settings shared among all JAWS users on the Windows system. When
the "explore shared settings is open" find the Outlook Express.JDF file as
mentioned above and copy it to the clipboard.

6. Move focus back into the all programs menu but this time instead of
going to the JAWS 10 program group press J until you get to JAWS 11. Open
JAWS 11 as shown above and then open the "explore my settings" choice.
Paste the Outlook.JDF file into the folder. If Windows tells you that there
is already a file with that name and asks you to confirm that you want to
overwrite it then do so.

7. Move focus back to the JAWS 11 group and open the "explore JAWS"
choice. Use down arrow key to the "explore shared settings" icon and press
enter key.

8. Use CTRL+V to paste the copied file into this folder and overwrite
if asked to by Windows.

9. Close the "explore shared settings" folder using Alt+f4.

The above steps should replace the Outlook Express dictionary file in JAWS
11 with the one in JAWS 10.

REPLACING the MICROSOFT OUTLOOK JDF IN JAWS 11 WITH OUTLOOK EXPRESS.JDF IN
JAWS 10

1. Start by following steps 1 through and including 5 above.

2. Move focus to the desktop by using Windows key with D and paste the
Outlook Express.JDF file to the desktop by using CTRL+V.

3. Browse into the "explore my settings" and "explore shared settings"
for JAWS 11 as shown above. Press the letter "M" or if you type fairly
quickly then type M I C to move to the area of the given folder where the
Microsoft entries will be located. Use down arrow key in each of those
folders and see if you have a Microsoft Outlook 2003.JDF or Microsoft
Outlook 2007.JDF file. I am not sure which version of Microsoft Outlook you
are using.

4. Move focus to the desktop and find the Outlook Express JDF file
that you pasted. Move focus on to the icon so that it is selected and press
function key 2. You will be in an edit box where you can rename the file.
You need to leave the .JDF (that is the period and the J D F) part of the
file name. Rename the file to exactly what the one was called that you
found in "explore my settings" or "explore shared settings" for JAWS 11. If
it is for Microsoft Outlook 2007 then the file name will be Microsoft
Outlook 2007.JDF.

5. After renaming the desktop icon move focus on to it and copy it to
the clipboard by using CTRL+C.

6. Navigate into the "explore my settings" and/or the "explore shared settings" folders for JAWS 11 and paste the file from the clipboard by using
CTRL+V. If you renamed it correctly you will be asked if you are sure you
want to replace, overwrite or something like that and answer yes.

The above should replace your current Microsoft Outlook JAWS dictionary file
in JAWS 11 with the Outlook Express JAWS dictionary file from JAWS 10,.

I apologize if this seems to be a long-winded explanasion. Let me know if I
can help you any further with this task.

Take care.

to Jaws 11 Outlook?

Thanks!
