Hi Trisha.
This is an age old question, and many people are debating about 32
bit verses 64 bit, as well as how much ram to have. let me first
answer your question about 32 Bit. further to what Chris said
earlier, the only reason you'd want to go with 64 Bit is because
supposedly it can access all the memory of your laptop, for example
the entire 4 GB, but it will also allow you to use up to 128 GB of
memory. 32 Bit will also allow you to do this using something called
physical address extention technology, PAE for short. this
technology, available on all modern processors, enables a computer
to use up to 64 GB of memory and does away in part with the previous
4 GB limitation of 32bit. My personal recommendation is stay with 32
bit. more programs by far support 32 bit and while programs are
supporting 64 bit, the majority of programs online don't support 64
bit necissarily so there may be a decrease in performance if using a
32bit program on a 64 bit machine. they are not necissarily the
future, as many people aren't running 64 bit despite it being around
for 3 years or so. it was like the war between betamax and VHS,
betamax was around and it offered some advantages, but wasn't worth
everyone switching to it. or, like the modern day war going on
between HD DVD and blueray. people don't want to pay more for
something they're hardly ever going to use or take advantage of, and
i can't blaim them. also, does your jaws licence support 64bit? as
far as i can remember, 32bit licences are meant to be cheaper, i
could be wrong though. conclusion? go with 32 bit.
as for your question about the ram, most modern laptops come with a
minimum of 2 GB, more commonly 3 or 4 GB. you do not need to upgrade
this amount of ram. windows7 only needs a minimum of 1 GB of ram to
run, leaving the rest free for your programs etc.

My sister just purchased back around end of March, a Acer laptop
with this win/7 for roughly $359. but I don't know much anything
else about it, save it has a full size keyboard, a button to
turn/off the mouse function. I is much lighter in weight too and I
think the monitor is bigger, but those details don't interest me
much on monitor size.
I'm focusing on how easy it is to use it, the key layout and all
that. It did come with several USB slots and the cd rom drive if
that's what it's still called these days,lol.
But the keyboard was almost exact to desktop keyboards or what I am
use to.

Sorry. I agree it's all technical. Basically, 64 bit operating
systems can use all the RAM (Random Access Memory) your computer
offers. So, for example, if you have 4GB (4000GB or 4096MB), then
a 64 bit operating system can use all of that, rather than 3 to
3.5 on a 32 bit operating system.

All machines are 64 bit. The question is do you want a 32 bit or
a 64
bit operating system? Personally I would stay with 32 bit,
unless you
have mission critical applications that require intensive memory
and
processing power. Most of us do not, so it's best to stay with
32 bit
for the time being. But also note that 64 bit operating systems
is the
future, so you may just want to go 64 bit anyway so that your
laptop
is "futureproof". Hope this helps.
