Hi Fanus,
Have you made sure that the speaker volume is turned up, and that the speakers are plugged into the proper jack on the soundcard? The RealTek on-board soundcard has three jacks, and the one in the middle should be the speaker jack. You may need to go into the device manager, and locate the soundcard, and see if Windows is recognizing it,
if it is not being shown in the volume mixer.
Alternatively, if you plug in a USB headset, Windows should choose it as the default, and all sounds should come thru it. Even if you haven't installed specific drivers for the soundcard, Windows comes with generic drivers that will allow it to work with basic functions.
HTH,
Rick Justice

Hi Rick
Sorry for these stupid questions but I am stuck and my wife
is not very computer literate.
It seems that you know much about these technmical matters.
After I installed win 7 and it restarted I noticed that
there was not that familiar windows sound. Do you think it
can be the volume which is muted or turned down. What
worries me is that my wife says that there is A picture on
the system tray which indicates that no speaker or headphone
is plugged in, although my speakers are plugged in. It is an
onboard realtech sound card.
I tried to activate the windows narator but there is still
no speech.
Any suggestions will be helpful.
Regards
Fanus

Hi Fanus,
In Windows 7, open the start menu, and type the word volume
in the search
box
you should get a list of results which you can down arrow
thru.
These results will vary from computer to computer, but try
looking for
adjust system volume.

Hi Listers
I installed win 7 on a new hard drive but there is no
sound.
Where in win 7 can I find the volume control to see if
volume is perhaps muted?
Regards
Fanus
