Subject: [JAWS-Users] GOT IT BUT WHAT A MESS!

Regarding the Jaws update problem with my 64 bit system, As suggested, the
only way to resolve the problem I had was to remove Jaws entirely and then
download a completely new version. But as I asked before, how can that be
done when the only screen reader you use is Jaws.
Well, I went out and downloaded NVDA, then tried to get a copy of Jaws from
the Freedom list.
I have never used NVDA before but I did manage to get the copy and
re-install it on my system.
But I had no way of knowing how to turn off NVDA so that was an interesting
time with both systems talking simultaneously.

As an emergency alternative, NVDA isn't bad. There are some things about it
that are quite useful, especially the tone which goes up in steps and keeps
you informed as to how far the progress bar has gone.
But that voice! Good Heavens! Nothing like moving around the internet with
Sir Barrel Tone talking to you in a voice that sounds as if he's really
angry but has to help you anyway.
I'm sure there must be other voices out there.

Well, at least my Jaws is now up to date and after the re-start, Sir Barrel
Tone did not reappear.
Does anyone know how to turn that thing on and off?
