Rick,

This is good info here. I wanted ask regarding disk cleanup since you
mentioned it here, what items in window's 7 should be checked in the list to
do a disk clean? Remember in xp, there was a list of things to check to
clean off the disk, and you could view them first before having it removed.
I have found it for win/7 to be pretty much laid out same way, but wasn't
sure if all the items could or should be checked to perform the disk
cleanup, can you advise?

Thanks,

Trish

Another way in Windows 7, is to open the start menu, and start typing
Disk Cleanup
When it opens, you just select the drive from the list, and tab to the okay
button.
This is an extra step compared to running the utility from the properties of
the drive in computer.
Additionally, you can see how many restore points, or shadow copies have
been saved by doing the following:
>From the start menuu, in the search box, start typing
device manager
When the device manager opens, tab once to the tree-view of devices.
Open the view menu, and arrow to show hidden devices, and press enter.
Now, press the letter S, until you come to:
storage volume shadow copies
Open this with right arrow, and you will find a list of restore points.
They will be listed as generic volume shadow copy.
Pressing enter on any of these, will open the properties and from the
details tab,
and you can view information about the selected restore point.
There will be a list of about 42 items, and moving to the installed date,
you can see when the restore point was made.
The method I first described, would be the preferred one, and part of
routine maintenance.

Bring up the properties of the system drive.
On the general tab, choose the disk cleanup button.
After it has finished scanning for files to remove, tab to the cleanup tab,
then move to the more options tab.
Here you will find the options to cleanup unwanted software, and restore
points.
If you choose the programs and features cleanup button,
it will take you to programs and features where you can uninstall unwanted
software.
If you choose, system restore and shadow copies cleanup button, it will
remove all but the most recent restore point.
These same steps apply to Windows XP as well.

Rick Justice

You cannot add a date further back than what is listed in system restore. So
far as the other question goes I would like to know the answer as well.

A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from
a simpler system that worked perfectly.

I am using W7, Outlook 2010 and latest jaws and I would like to know if it
is possible to remove unwanted dates from system restore. And if so, how?
Also, how can I add a date to system restore that is further back than any
dates shown? I would appreciate any info on this.
