Eric, Thanks for the suggestions. I will give it a try. Perhaps, even if they can't fix my current problem, they can use the info to help to make later JAWS versions more stable. Does dumping JAWS shut it down? Also, I am using a laptop with caps lock as my JAWS key so would caps lock plus windows key plus F4 do it? Thanks, Scott Duck

Please provide them the details about what you are running on Win 8. MS Office version? What browser? What email? Those sorts of thing. If you have noticed a particular pattern of what is going on when it happens, this really helps. Also, when you notice it goes silent, it may be very beneficial for the developers at FS if you can dump JAWS at that moment. The keystroke to dump it as soon as it goes silent, is INSERT +Windows Key + F4. The support guys will know where to get the dump files (one level up from your JAWS User Settings location) and they can get you to send it to them in order to include it in a record for the developers to look at. If not, do it. At least once per day, JAWS crashes. By that, I mean that it is silent and shows as not responding . When this happens, I run Narrator, open the task manager, shut down JAWS, close the task manager, close Narrator, and rerun JAWS. This has happened occasionally over the years with different versions on different systems. In the past, it happened too often but not often enough to really be a big bother. After upgrading to JAWS 14 with Windows 7 and especially after starting to use Windows 8, it happens much more frequently, at least once per day and sometimes two or three times per day. If anyone has any thoughts on making JAWS more stable, I am certainly open to suggestions. I suspect that nothing can be done because, as I said, I have experienced this problem for years on different systems so I don't think it is something particular to my current installation. Alternatively, is there a way to set up a shortcut to kill JAWS when it stops responding so that I don't have to run Narrator to do it?
