I just tried the steps for Windows 8 with no success. I found the default
programs tab, but don't see a checkbox for making outlook my default
program.

helllo,
In windows XP, I went to control panel, then in programs there is an option
for default. Press enter. then tab to personalize buton and press enter.
Well don't remember if it it is enter or you have to expand. If you tab on,
you will find email and check the one that corresponds to yours. I did try
to do this through the internet explorer, but it did not work.
I hope this helps.
