Hi Tim,
I ran "Super antispyware" and C Cleaner, Check disc then disc defrag.
The same problem occurred. I hit "windows", arrowed to "turn off" hit
"enter" arrowed to "turn off computer". I heard the tones but, the computer
never fully shut down. My sighted wife said the screen said shutting down.
after 30 minutes, I had to physically turn off the computer.
Thanks for any other tips.

Sense your doing hard shut downs. I would run scan disk and defrag. Then
try a restart and if that works do a full shut down.
