upon a accessible, simple freeware program that converts .doc into pdf, txt,
or tif. It is called MyMorph and it is totally free, if anyone had the
same problem. Thanks for help.

Have you tried opening a doc file with Wordpad? I just tried it & it
worked, running XP Pro & J10 thru 14.

Do you not have Microsoft Word?
You could try Wordpad and see if that will open the .doc and then click
file, asave as from there?
