Janie, Strange but true, I have it set to characters and words everywhere
and still it will only echo back words. Even when I use insert 2 on the
numbers row, it won't change.

the quick keystroke is
insert and the number 2 on the number row
it will cycle through the choices

I'm setting up a laptop for someone and originally had it set to echo
words when typing. Now when I try to set it to echo characters and words
it refuses to change.
Any suggestions?
