What I already tried was to copy and paste it directly on the Desktop; this
did not work.
Then, I tried to locate some option to do this in the context menu, but
nothing was there.

Now, if I am in the message where the link is located and select the link, I
then press alt f as you suggested. Up arrow and I am at Save and then
Options.
I don't hear what you say which sounds so easy, really.
Perhaps I do not have the menus set as they should be set which is the
problem. I need to do this first, I think somehow, in order to follow your
instructions.

Just curious, what have you tried?
Try
 1.
alt f for file menu

2.
Up arrow to the send to submenu and press right arro 3.
Down arrow to shortcut to desktop and press enter

Answer the dialog that will proceed and finish by pressing spacebar or
enter.

The dialog will ask if you want to place a shortcut of the site on your
desktop and the focus will be on yes, so tap the spacebar and viola, it will
be on your desktop.
