I think Maria's two cents is worth a lot of consideration.
As an example, a couple days ago I could not get the edit fields to work in
Excel 2007. I unloaded Jaws 16 and ran an earlier version that I know worked
just fine with Excel, but no luck. I called FS Tech Support and they said it
was the shared components that were causing the problem.
The suggestion was to uninstall JAWS 16 along with the shared components and
then reinstall 16 from FS's site.
Now, I'm sure this is a good plan, but in my situation I have to go through a
lengthy and difficult process to get admin rights to do this stuff, and the
time it takes to uninstall and reinstall etc. is not what I'd call a productive
use of resources.
My boss understands this stuff, so I'm fortunate in that respect, but I'm sure
that there are a lot of workplaces out there where wasting employer's time
would be seriously frowned upon.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [JAWS-Users] The many JAWS issues

This is only speculation on my part of course. However, even
though each big upgrade of JAWS is a separate program, they share
components. As each program is removed or newly installed, I believe
these shared components get corrupted at some point, creating the many
issues discussed on the list.
I, for one, never know whether or not to leave or remove shared
components with each new upgrade.
My issue with JAWS 16 is that it never installed with default settings,
but rather looks as if it merged with God knows whit version of JAWS on
my computer.
It seems to me that FS should figure out how to keep each version from
affecting another.
Just my two cents.
