I have a Dell Inspiron and it is easy to turn the mouse on and off with the
Windows Mobility Center. I would not want to use the complicated methods
since sometimes I need to turn it on to get sighted help for clicking
something that Jaws won't handle.
Anyway, the Windows Mobility Center is activated by locating the recessed
buttons above the row of F keys at the top of the laptop. On the left is
only one button, the power button. Moving to the right side the first
recessed button brings up the Windows Mobility Center. This controls many
settings but since Touchpad is the last one I use shift tab 3 times to have
it read whether the touchpad is on or off. I like to be absolutely sure I
am in the right place. Then tab once and the next button will say either
Turn off or Turn on depending. Then I just Alt F4 to close the window.
I just discovered that I could also bring up the Windows Mobility Center by
typing it into the search box in the start menu.
I do have Windows 7 but the Windows Mobility Center is a Dell thing so it
might be available in Windows 8.
Other useful items I have used in the Dell Windows mobility Center is the
ability to turn off the wireless signal and also I have changed the way the
function keys are used since the original setting had them attached to a
bunch of Dell commands that I did not use.

Does anyone know of a keystroke to disable or shut down the mousepad on a
Dell laptop? I don't even have to touch the thing for it to make the cursor
jump away from the application I'm working in. I've tried Device Manager
and there was no disable button or else JAWS couldn't read it.
