I'm more concerned about contents than program, but thanks for the warning.

As far as moving all your data and even some programs, there are programs out there to help.

When I migrated from XP, I used PcMover.
Not every program can transfer, but all the data does. Some programs do transfer; but some that are more intricately tied to the operating system like OpenBook and screen-readers don't.

Then you have provided a solution - maybe not an immediate one but a
definite solution. When I get my new computer, I am getting a professional
guy to help us get it going to try to recover as much as I want to import
from this one. He'll know right how to guide us to that, and I like my gmail
address, in a way better than this one. Thanks for the support.

The changing of email addresses isn't a hassle as much as it is to notify
other people that you've changed.

If you use a general email provider like Yahoo or Google mail then it
doesn't matter whether you switch your ISP to cable, DSl, or whatever,
your email address won't change.

You can set up a "generic" address with any email client. You just need
to know the settings. You can easily look up Gmail settings for Windows
LiveMail.
All the settings for Gmail either pop or imap are the same, no matter what
email program you use. It is just in some programs, the locations of
where you put in the pop server if it can't automatically identify it
based on your email address and other settings may be different.

Could a generic address like gmail be directed into WLM or one of those?

I like to suggest people pick some third party email address that won't go
away like Yahoo for example. Another option is to setup your own internet
domain and create accounts that way. Although a little more work it does
offer you the option of having total control of your accounts.

Every now and then I want to bundle with our cable service. In addition
to
them not being convincing that a good price is going to last long, my
husband (great with computer, has been printer and taught electronics)
urges that we do need to think carefully before even considering changing e-mail addresses. I did do it quite a few years ago, and it was a hassle.

I think that someone on list has the settings for comcast pop3. I
contacted
comcast support and what a waist. I told them what I need and they then
sent
me the imap settings again. After about 10 hours of changing email
addresses
from verizon, I may have to go back. I did purchase the verizon email
url
and would like to cancel that.
