Andy,

You can watch YouTube videos by enabling HTML5, flash is not necessary for
those, although it may be for some other training sites.

Because it is a security hole begging for exploitation, if I absolutely had no
other choice, then make sure you only allow flash on specific sites as
necessary. Check the approved sites list in your browser and remove any sites
that are superfluous.

Again, here I am referring to Adobe's flash player.

As for JAVA Access from Sun, I have uninstalled that almost a year ago when
they were having all their security issues and I don't need it for anything at
this point in time.

Steve

Your first tip is well worth considering. As for disabling Flash, it depends on
what you do. I visit many sites that offer video presentations using flash.
Also, if you use your PC for online training of any kind, you will need to have
Flash enabled.

Just a thought. Kim Komando recommends using a standard user profile for
your regular one. It is safer since no software can be slipped onto your PC
since doing so requires the administrator password to be entered. This is
much safer than using an administrative profile for your regular work.
I am a super cautious computer user and have both Vipre and Webroot
Security on my Win 7 laptop. Another tip of hers I followed is to turn off
Flash in IE and Firefox. Flash has to request permission to run and it is
very seldom necessary.

Hi Kevin,

If you are running Windows 8.1, tAdding a enew user has to be done by
selecting Settings from the charms bar, then Change PC Settings. Now select
Accounts, and then Other Accounts. Select Add and follow the prompts to
create your new account.

To make the new account the administrator, highlight the account name, and
change the account type from the account type drop down menu.

To remove the old account, highlight the account that you want to remove,
then tab around until you find the Remove button and click this.

All of these steps are done from the Other Accounts window found through the
settings charm as described above. If you have any other questions, just
post them, hth.

I fixed the problem of no system sounds on my desktop by just creating a new
profile, but now I don’t have administrator rights. how can I set a user as
the admin? when I’m using the profile with system sounds and I go into
manage users all I see is standard user radio button checked and cancel.when
I go to manage all users all that’s displayed is the profile with the system
sounds and guest the profile without system sounds is not shown! I want to
delete the existing profile which is the admin and make the one with sound
the admin. is this possible to do without sighted help?

email is golden!!
