Hello Carolyn,

My message to someone else on the list showed steps for not using the
backstage view when opening and saving files. After showing those steps I
listed steps for Word not to open the backstage area when opening the
program. There are two sets of steps in my message. The first four were
for when opening and saving documents, the second set of four steps was for
when opening Word. I am pasting them below. The "Don't show backstage
view" that you referred to was covered in the first set of steps dealing
with opening and saving files and not for when opening Word. You might want
to try the second set of four steps to stop Word from opening the backstage
view when you start it. Feel free to contact me if I can be of further
help.

1. Use Alt+F followed by Alt+T to go into Word options.
2. Press S to move to the Save category.
3. Tab to the checkbox "don't show the backstage when opening or saving
files" and press spacebar to check it.
4. Tab to OK and use spacebar.

If you also don't want the backstage opening when you open word do the
following:

1. Press Alt+F followed by Alt+T to go into Word options.
2. The first category is general. Tab across the options in this category.
When you get to the "Show the start screen when this application starts"
checkbox use spacebar to uncheck it if it is checked.
3. Tab to OK and press spacebar.
4. Close Word and open it again to make sure your options stayed as you set
them. If not then you might try restarting your system.

Unfortunately, Don't show backstage view is checked, computer turned off,
restarted. While it is still checked, backstage view still appears, and I
have to hit Control N to get a word document. This computer is trying to
outsmart me.

Fix it or live with it,

Carolyn

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Getting rid of back stage view

Hello Gang:

When in Microsoft Word 2013, I usually do control O then shift tab twice to
the document list. But, I ran into something called back stage view.

How do I find the check box to uncheck the back stage view?

I saw a post about it several months ago. But, did not file or save the
information. So, I know y'all know the answer.

 Thanks. Neil
