I've wondered about this, too, since Windows 7 search hasn't been picking up my 
.docx files. I think I just found the answer at the following webpage. Note 
that once you change your search settings, the system goes through what looks 
like a lengthy indexing process, which I didn't pick up on right away. It 
continues as I write this message, although I'm told that by working on the 
computer, I'm slowing it down. Let's hope this works:
