Hailley, Stand by mode is a way to leave your computer for an extended period of time and have it saved and protected. Once you return and want to resume your work you must enter the user name and password you have stored for the stand by mode (log-on) to pick up where you left off. Your work is saved in memory. Do not confuse Stand by mode with Hibernate mode. Hibernate mode is not protected from other people, let's say at work while you are away having lunch, for accessing your work you left up and running. If you need more explanation use F1 the help menu and support from the windows start key and type in stand by mode and hibernation to really dig into this subject.
